Vehicle Description
tandb classics are delighted to present this stunning example of a late W201 series 4 door sedan from the compact executive class in Pearl Blue with lower door trim and front and rear valence in Andor Blue. With the paintwork refreshed by the current owner in the last 12 months and the alloy wheels refurbished at the same time the car looks immaculate. The doors close with that satisfying clunk from Mercedes of that era when they were over engineered and built to last. The checked cloth interior is also in remarkably good condition with no rips or tears. The car drives equally well pulling strongly right up to the redline. You get that satisfying howl at the upper end of the rev range so typical of straight sixes of that era. The interior with front and rear armrests holds you comfortably in your seat to give the feeling a cross continental drive would be a very pleasant experience.
125,750 miles with a stamped service booklet up to 102,000 miles and invoices for services thereafter, the latest on 7/7/20 at 125,612 miles. A detailed schedule of the service history is available on request. Recent work includes new brake discs and pads all round and a new front to rear exhaust.

As was common at that time in the early 1990s customers were able to select key features from the Sportline package and this car comes with the majority of these verified by a Specification sheet pasted to the inside of the Service Booklet. The main features are as follows:-
Sportline
• Suspension package lowered and stiffened springs and dampers, bigger anti roll bar and quick steering rack
• Light alloy 15 hole 7J x 15 wheels with 205/55/15 tyres now 2019 Uniroyal Rainsport
• Smaller 390mm sports steering wheel
• Headlight wash wipe system (present but not currently fitted)
• Extra range 70 litre fuel tank and boot trim to accommodate full sized spare
• Electric sunroof with tilt
• Electric windows all round
• anti corrosion pack
In 2018 at 110k miles, the previous owner had the original engine removed and a 3.0 litre straight 6 Mercedes Engine fitted after it had been overhauled. The engine is an M103 from a 1987 W124 300E car. That engine was stripped for inspection. Main and big end bearings were in perfect condition and the cylinder bores still showed original factory honing marks. New crankshaft oil seals, water pump, fuel injectors, cam cover seal, head gasket, stretch bolts, valve guide seals, O2 sensor and intake and exhaust gaskets all fitted. At the same time the car received new driveshaft couplings, new anti roll bar bushes and a new windscreen. It is understood the replacement 3.0 litre engine produces 188 bhp which is similar to the 2.3 16v performance, better than the standard 2.6 (160bhp).
The original engine also comes with the car. It too was stripped for inspection and comes with new head gasket, cam seals, stretch bolts, valve guide seals and cam cover seal.
The original first aid kit and warning triangle are fitted in the boot and the original fire extinguisher remains in front of the passenger’s seat. Tool kit also present, 2 sets of keys and Owners Manual. While a modern bluetooth stereo is fitted there is also a period Sony Radio Cassette player available.
This is a fine example of a classic saloon. Useable as a daily driver if desired or high days and holidays for longer distances.
